Study Finds Hawaiians Feet Twice as Big: No Feet Actually Measured

9/21/07- Honolulu, HI

A study by an unnamed underclassman at an unnamed midwestern college finds that Hawaiians' feet are roughly twice as big as any other group of people on the planet.  Due to a limited budget the study was completed without actually measuring any feet.  Using a cutting edge technology called the internet, the student instead compared surf reports from various regions of the planet and found that Hawaiian reports list surf at roughly half the height (in feet) as anyone else.  Some reports even list surf height in both "normal" and "Hawaiian" (HAW) feet.  For instance, a famous Fijian break was reported at six feet (3 ft. HAW) on August 10th, 2007.

The study is not without its detractors however.  Some California surfers insist the phenomenon is more related to the Hawaiian propensity to understate surf height, in order to boost credibility when reporting on the really big days.  One surfer from California put it this way "They just want to be cool you know.  When the rest of us start to get spooked by surf they are still saying it's 3 ft (HAW).  It doesn't make a lot of sense, but hey, they invented surfing so who are we to argue."

Surfer Swears He Got Barreled: Only Evidence is a Blurry Photo

12/27/2005- Newport Beach, CA

Huntington Beach Surfer Aric Plumley (supposedly pictured) insists that the picture is conclusive evidence of his "sick barrel".  Unfortunately, the picture was blurry and the only person able to corroborate Aric's story was his father Leo who took the picture.

"He was in there for a good thirty seconds, and I caught this picture just as he was coming out" says Leo, a resident of Sacramento, who has a long history of exaggerating his son's accomplishments.

Phil McCracken, a beach observer, didn't notice the wave and when shown the picture asked "Is that the Loch Ness Monster?  I think I see the tongue sticking out."
